NCIS With New Orleans Twist: Series Premiere – NCIS New Orleans – Season 1 Episode 1 – “Musician Heal Thyself”

Are you ready for another franchise of NCIS? This time around, we’re headed to New Orleans. The team is small, but forceful as Scott Bakula leads the crew in NCIS New Orleans.  If you watched the episode of NCIS that introduced the New Orleans team then you know Pride (Scott Bakula) has history with Gibbs-and they are very much alike in their approach. Hopefully, however, they’ll be different enough to make Pride distinctive.

At the very beginning of the episode, a leg is found. The team shows up to investigate and right away you can tell the tone of this NCIS is going to be more humorous as Pride makes jokes. Brody is having a hard time finding a quiet place to live because is just not used to the New Orleans lifestyle.

Back at headquarters, Pride is told that a kid he mentored is missing in action-has not shown up for duty. This makes no sense to Pride, although the kid, Calvin, does come from a troubled past. Pride immediately has a bad feeling about the leg found earlier. Could it belong to Calvin?

Dr. Loretta Wade provides the answer: yes, Calvin is dead. Dr. Wade is the medical examiner. Pride looks heartbroken when he gets the news. Apparently, the first episode is going to be quite personal for him.

I just have to say: one thing really cool is that Pride is cooking at headquarters; their office is more like a home! When Brody and LaSalle show up at headquarters, LaSalle expresses concern about Pride’s involvement in the investigation, fearing that Pride may not like what the investigation uncovers. As it turns out, LaSalle may have good reason for concern because Calvin used to be involved with gangs.

Brody is still looking for a place to live. Pride tries to teach her the fine art of realizing how important where she lives is; it says everything about her, he tells her. All she wants is a place where she can get some sleep!

Pride doesn’t want to believe that Calvin went back into the gang life, but not only that, the crime being gang related doesn’t make sense in Pride’s mind. And according to what Doc Wade has discovered (with the help of Ducky, from NCIS), his instincts are dead on; it looks like someone was trying to make it look like Calvin went back to the gang life. Now to make others see it.

Naturally, Pride gathers the evidence he needs. The problem is the evidence points to someone in a position of high power, so Pride is going to have to work a little harder to convict the guy behind it.

Brody finds a nice little place. She doesn’t know, however, that she’s renting from the Doc. All in good time.

Overall, I’d say the first episode of NCIS: New Orleans was a success. We see a lot of emotion from Pride. We also see a sense of family with the tight-knit team. I’m looking forward to next week.
