Pinkie sense is definitely a special ability, but magic is reserved for unicorns and alicorns.
I think there's something very inspiring about earth ponies. They're hard-working, creative, and lovable.

Here's something from MLP wikia that is very relevant. "Lauren Faust has stated that the earth and pegasus pony races possess subtler types of magic, which allows pegasi to walk on clouds for example, but unicorns are unique in their ability to actively perform magic."
Hmm, I guess that changes things a bit.

Well the way I see it, Pegasi usually have the job of controlling weather, however earth ponies aren't limited to doing anything so they have a little bit of a wider range of jobs.

I think that Earth ponies are, in general, a particularly adaptable, versatile, resourceful, determined, talented, and industrious race. It's a good combination. ;) I TOTALLY agree with all of the above comments! ;) Faust's remark makes a lot of sense, and really, that's how just how I've been thinking of it, anyway. I also think that any pony can take up any profession or career he or she wants and is talented at, but dealing with celestial matters does necessarily fall to Pegasi.

...And science still cannot explain the phenomenon known as "Pinkie Sense." ;)

Pinkie Pie has Pinkie Sense, but Applejack doesn't need any. Unless being awesome is her power.

Applejeck has a certain strength that I doubt unicorns and pegasi have. And Pinkie... Well, Pinkie is just Pinkie. XD
