It really does depend some episodes like the season 2 finale should be rated PG because it may be little scary for children and the actual plot is a lot heavier as well. Just anywhere from TV-Y to TV-PG. There hasn't been an episode that think should be rated higher than that.

TV-G, of course. I think the TV-Y is stupid and it's only for the channel. This show is recommended for all people but the show is better when you've more than 12 years.
It hasn't so many adult jokes like in Adventure Time or Regular Show, but if Tom and Jerry are fighting all the time and for that is TV-G, MLP must be TV-G for all the kicks on the show.

This show has something for everyone, through mostly for kids, and there are words like "stupid", certain... innuendos ( 3 words- creamy, creamy frosting ), violence, creepy stuff and even depressing stuff, so is not 100% for kids. But despite that, is an educational show for kids that's made to sell toys, so yeah. TV-G IS the best rating.
