‘Psych’ Star James Roday’s Directorial Debut ‘Gravy’ Sells to Shout! Factory (Exclusive)
The film stars Michael Weston, Jimmi Simpson, Sutton Foster, Lily Cole, Gabourey Sidibe and Sarah Silverman
Shout! Factory has acquired North American rights to “Gravy,” a horror comedy that marks the directorial debut of “Psych” star James Roday, who also wrote the script, TheWrap has learned.
Shout! Factory has secured exclusive distribution rights including digital, home entertainment, broadcast and theatrical for cross-platform releases in the U.S. and Canada. The company plans a strategic rollout of the movie on a variety of entertainment distribution platforms and in all packaged media through its horror brand Scream Factory.
Michael Weston stars alongside Jimmi Simpson (“House of Cards”), Sutton Foster (“Younger”), Lily Cole (“Snow White and the Huntsman”), Molly Ephraim and Paul Rodriguez, as well as Gabourey Sidibe (“Empire”), Sarah Silverman and Roday.

Roday and Todd Harthan co-wrote the script, which follows a trio of costumed misfits with very special dietary requirements on Halloween night. The group seizes a Mexican cantina and forces the staff to engage in a late night of gluttony. The only caveat is what’s on the menu — and who will survive til morning.
“Gravy” is a Bad Flan film presented by Synchronicity Entertainment in association with Siren Productions. Kerry Rock and Craig Chapman produced the film, which was executive produced by Myles Nestel, Ruzanna Kegeyan, Kyle Jackson, Dean Gavoni, Jay Lieberman Ilardo, Larry Taube and Todd Harthan. Steak House and Dominic Ottersbach served as co-producers on the project, which boasts special make-up effects by Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger.
“James Roday has made a wonderfully demented blend of horror and comedy that fits perfectly into our Scream Factory family. The substantial talent behind and in front of the camera will appeal to a broad range of fans, and we look forward to building an audience across a variety of platforms,” said Shout’s associate VP of content acquisitions Jordan Fields.

“I dreamt of cannibals, pop culture and Mexican food. That dream came true in the hands of a stellar ensemble cast and precision blood splatter. “Gravy” is a very dark comedy for grown ups who also like a little gore on the menu. We look forward to trick or treating genre fans with the film later this year,” added Roday.
The “Gravy” deal was negotiated by Preferred Content’s Kevin Iwashina and Zac Bright and Shout! Factory’s Fields.
