FKA twigs on Racist Online Attacks: \'I Wouldn\'t Say I\'m Completely Numb to It\'

"I wouldn\'t say I\'m completely numb to it now, but there\'s definitely a numbness there," twigs told

of the racism she\'s faced online. The star, who\'s covering the magazine\'s June/July issue, opened up about the negative side of her high-profile engagement to

"It is pretty horrible," twigs, 27, told the magazine. "But ultimately, I\'m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn\'t matter."

Most of the harsh response stemmed from obsessive Pattinson fans, and began shortly after the couple started dating in September.

"I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week," she Tweeted at the time. "Racism is unacceptable in the real world, and it\'s unacceptable online."

The singer has been fairly outspoken about the new breed of fame her relationship with Pattinson has wrought.

"If this is what being an artist is, I\'m not really sure this is for me," she told

after a day of press interviews. "[The press cycle] is horrific. I could be doing dance class right now."

In fact, a press interview gone awry initially led to the leaked news of the couple\'s April engagement.

Rapper T-Pain accidentally let twigs and Pattinson\'s plans slip, and despite his best efforts to cover it up, the engagement announcement was quickly everywhere.

"I\'d rather not talk about it," twigs told the mag, later adding, "It\'s fine, I\'m a pretty chill person, do you know what I mean? If you can’t touch it, it\'s not real."

The R&B artist, who wrapped up her three, avant-garde Congregata Brooklyn performances in May, insists she\'s still grateful for her success.

"I haven\'t had an easy life at all, but everything seems to be working out," twigs said. "I\'m so grateful for that, because at times, especially when I was a teenager, I just couldn\'t see how things could ever get better, or how I\'d ever be able to do this. I don\'t know what I thought I\'d be doing. I\'d always worked hard at music and at dancing, but I never thought I\'d get the opportunity to be doing this, and have the belief of people to give me a budget to make a video."
