Allons-y! Season 11 of 'Doctor Who' Is Reportedly Getting Revamped
This is not a drill, people! The TARDIS is being redesigned.
Falling in love with The Doctor is a complicated process. It means loving a doctor inside of another doctor who can die while also not dying. Yeah, it’s crazy, beautiful, and totally wild, so you can only imagine how serious
fanatics are when it comes to changing anything in this deeply intricate and fantastical universe.
Reportedly some major changes are being implemented for the highly-anticipated Season 11. In addition to Jodie Whittaker signing on as the first female Doctor, new showrunner, Chris Chibnall, is ready to alter the format of
So what kind of changes are we talking about exactly?
For starters, the TARDIS is getting a complete redesign—both inside and outside. Of course, this isn’t an off-the-handle decision since the TARDIS is capable of regenerating around the same time as The Doctor does.
The Thirteenth Doctor will also have a remodeled sonic screwdriver which has helped save the universe countless times. (Who knew screwdrivers were such a gift to humanity?)
The most surprising change happening in the revamped Season 11 is the new format. The runtime of
episodes is usually 45 minutes, but now they’ll be extended to 60 minutes. However, the price of having longer episodes has resulted in a shorter season. That’s right, folks, Season 11 has shrunk from 12-13 episodes to 10 with a Christmas Special.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because longer episodes would allow for more developed individual stories. That’s better than having a few extra but weaker episodes each season!
"It is traditional for new showrunners to come in and shake things up to stamp their mark on the show and Chris is not doing things by halves," an insider revealed to
. "Expect something fresh and brilliant, with more of the stories traveling backwards in time, to interesting historical eras, as well as forwards."
Before these reported changes take place, the outgoing Doctor, Peter Capaldi, will take his final lap as the Twelfth Doctor on Christmas Day. The upcoming 2017 Christmas Special, titled “Twice Upon a Time,” will also feature Pearl Mackie’s last performance as The Doctor’s companion, Bill Potts.
