I think everyone should be free to do whatever they like as long as they dont hurt anyone. Iran doesnt really seem able to hurt other nations around it. So why cant it have nuclear power?

This was a hard decision for me, Amoora, as on most cases I would agree with you. However, if Iran had nuclear power, regardless of whether or not they would use the uranium to build weapons instead, the US would use this fact to their advantage and use it as an excuse to invade Iran.

I don't know, really. Iran does have a bit of a crazy government right now. I'm wondering why the US keeps conveniently ignoring North Korea and keeps focusing on supposed weapons in the Middle East.

it could do a lot of good for the country, so long as they don't abuse the power. it's certainly a tough one to call, but there are ways to at least try to ensure that the uranium isn't being used for weapons.

the question wasn't asking if Iran should have nuclear weapons, greekthegeek. nuclear power can be used for lots of things besides blowing people up. i don't think any of us here are "for" nuclear warfare.

Bliss has it correct.

And if any nation is not trustworthy to have nuclear anything, it is the USA.

Just because a nation is producing nuclear power doesn't mean that they are enriching uranium for atomic bombs.

I honestly think that we really shouldn't be trying to stop them. There should definitely be more international regulations, and they need to be enforced on everyone. Powerful countries like the US get mad at North Korea and Iran even though they might not even have any, and if they do they are in possession of only a few. The United States however, has thousands of Nuclear Bombs READY FOR USE (NOT disassembled). What gives George Bush the right to be a hypocrite and attack other nations for a crime that he should be accused of?

Any country whose president has said he would like to see another country off the map (Israel) shouldn't have nuclear technology

This is just another case of the U.S. bullying other countries around to make sure it stays at the top of the power ladder. The real reason the US doesn't want Iran to have nuclear power is because then it might have a chance to become a real player in international relations.

I am definitely for all countries to have nuclear power if they want to. As to nuclear bombs, the US needs to lead the world in disassembling bombs, seeing as we are one of those who have the most. We need to get rid of nuclear warfare without getting rid of nuclear technology completely.
