ABC News (Australia's public broadcaster) just ran a segment on Trump promoting the use of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 (which I'd link if it wasn't geolocked), basically reporting:

There is no evidence that the drug helps coronavirus patients. Some link shows that the fatality rate in patients who received the drug was actually higher than in those that didn't: 28% of people who received hydroxychloroquine died, compared to 11% who received standard care. It is associated with severe side effects on cardiac function.

After Trump hyped it up as a treatment, there was panic-buying of hydroxychloroquine from pharmacies across the US. This is led to a national shortage, affecting the people that need it most - ABC interviewed a woman with lupus that has to take the drug every day to prevent her immune system attacking her own organs. She said she only had two weeks of the medication left and that it was impossible to get more.

But hey, link, he has a "natural ability" for science and "maybe [he] should have joined [the CDC] instead of running for president" lmao
