What I also found interesting was how different newspapers reported this story- Reading this link- link after the proper link, I found the dailymail one extrodinarily biased in its report. I don't know. You decide. But " suggesting Google now recognises the disputed region as an independent state"? In my understanding it does not mean anything of the sort. And "regularly fire rockets at Israel"? One-sided, and irrelevant. Even the headline- "Who needs the UN?".

To a certain extent, I can see a problem here. The idea from Israel's perspective is that the admission to the UN gives the Palestinians a sense of entitlement to a certain set of land, making it that much more difficult to bring them to the negotiation table because they've drawn a line in the sand. When Google posts something like this, they're not necessarily endorsing it, but it is sort of a slap in the face to be presented with it on such a widely known website.

On the other hand, there's something to be said about the good of recognition. It is possible that, with the return of their state name to them, Palestinians might become a more united group that actually holds to one line instead of several. Part of the problem is that the West Bank an Gaza's leadership can't seem to agree on much, making bringing them to the table nearly impossible, as even a decision reached by one party may not be held in esteem by the other. Google's posting of Palestine on their main page does endorse that kind of unity in a way.

But perhaps I'm thinking too deeply on it. Google may simply have been recognizing their membership, without taking sides on the good or bad of it. The response seems a little over the top for sure.

@Whiteflame. Those are good points. I can see what you mean about the problem there, because the Israelians may take that as a slap in the face as you said, because they don't want Palestine to have any sort of admission to be entitled to any land that they feel is theirs. But, on the other hand, you may be right about Palestine becoming more united group, or so we can hope anyway. I just hope that they can eventually work things out and stop any sort of conflict there.
