Critical Analysis of Twilight Question

Is Edward supposed to be that expressionless & emotionless?

I've read the first book long ago but it wasn't exactly the most memoriable piece of story I know so I don't recall much details.

And I just watched "New Moon" in hopes to get a laugh but much for my disappointment I found myself mostly annoyed for many things.

I don't know does the entirety of the main cast think the characters suck? B/c they're SO EMOTIONLESS in their performances!!!! Mostly anyway, like in lines that SHOULD have tons of passion/emotion in them or even at all. If someone spoke to me the way they mostly speak to/about each other certain lines, I'd have hard time even listening to, not to mention believing them. Alice the character was the most genuine in my eyes and ears.

Especially Edward seems to have only one or two facial expressions and he says almost everything in the same dry tone. Heck, even Kristen Stewarts performance compared to him was like fireworks and classical music all in one.

But yet, I think in Zarhura she was much more colourful and convincing and there was this trailer about RP's new movie wherein he was much more expresive and used more colourful tones. Though by no means would I call either of them great actors. But still. ARGH!!!

And it doesn't help that they imply how Edward's soul is soooo tortured and soooo beautiful and passionate and shit. FUCKING LET IT SHOW THEN, DUDE!!! AGH!!!!

And these movies maks you wonder WHY does she need him that bad? Why does she even like him significantly much? He's so passive and emotionless and expressionless and everything. The films have given no base for a feeling of that depth. For Edward to Bella either. Oh except maybe that Bella is obviously mental.

Um I get your point and I agree with you. Alice realy is the only one who portrays her character well. Rosalie as well has some emotion and expression in her voice, in my opinion.

Now I know.... I agree. Actors should feel related to whomever character they're playing. They shouldn't get a role they don't like, 'Cause that will make them worse in performance. I hope they'll read this topic, because this will definitely help their acts...

Well I get your point and I think that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson both need to put some expression, emotion and passion into their voices. When I saw Twilight the movie, I was disappointed with some of the actors' performances.

I don't think Edward Cullen the character is supposed to be emotionless and expressionless. Sometimes emotion and expression is necessary to make a movie enjoyable. When they say "I love you" to each other, they need to put some passion into their voices, because to me,when they say that to each other it doesn't seem as though they really love each other(by they I mean the characters Edward and Bella).

So I really don't think Edward the character is supposed to be emotionless. The actor makes the character seem emotionless because of the way he says the lines and his facial expressions.( no offense to anyone who loves the way the characters are portrayed)

I actually don't believe Charlie loves his daughter either in these films. I didn't catch much emotion in his I-love-yous either. But when Edward said struff like "I'm in Heaven" and "You're my everything" and so on I don't know how could anyone be touched. I was like "GAWD shut up since you don't seem to mean it!" When he was saying that ("You're my everything" etc.) and holding Bella, wearing the "bath rope" that looked really stupid on him by the way, anyway, nor only wa shis tone emotionless but his expresison seemed more like as if he had shit under his nose rather than the love of his life for who he apparently would die for and now had alive in his arms. Honestly, could they have picked any worse actors for the character? Or maybe any actually good actor didn't want the role because the character is so horribly unoriginal?

Edward himself isn't supposed to be emotionless - quit the opposite. However, I've read (and watched) several interviews where Rob says that he doesn't like playing Edward. I also read somewhere that he tried playing him as a manic depressive. Rob isn't the greatest actor ever, but if you've seen any of his other movies, he can act.

I've never considered Bella or Kristin to be very believably emotional. I mean, wasn't the whole point of New Moon how "empty" she felt?

Charlie is supposed to be awkward with emotions, but I do agree with your comment that he shows no love or affection towards his daughter at all, in the books or movies.

Rosalie and Alice are great actors, but, unfortunately, their parts are so minute that it doesn't bring the movie up at all. Jane is too, but she's one of the very few who are supposed to be emotionless.

Yeah. I'm quite dissapointed. Rob said the lines with poor voice I can't understand. And his emotions, too. Frustrating. And, take note, I noticed him blushing in New Moon. (check the scene before their kissing scene in the parking lot)
If he ever happene to read all of our answers and the questions, hopes he would get better with his role...

Hmm he probably wouldn't pay much attention to them because he hates the character Edward Cullen.
