Glastonbury appearance and emotive rallies have inspired a generation, and experts are now predicting that Corbyn will be the hottest new baby name this year.

After Jeremy Corbyn’s post-election popularity boost, research by parenting website Channel Mum has shown that over half of British parents would consider naming their child after the politician.

The name Corbyn had already shot up the charts between 2015 and 2016 and is now expected sky-rocket after his performance on the general election campaign trail.

And his stellar rise with the rank and file has also brought the name Jeremy back into fashion with 15% of parents saying they would name a son after him, the Mirror reports.

By contrast only 4% would use Theresa for a newborn girl, although 38% plumped for May.

The survey determined that only 5% of parents would consider naming their child Boris, after Foreign Secretary Johnson, along with Diane after Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott and Donald in honour of the US President Donald Trump.

Overall, election-led names are one of the fastest-growing baby trends with a quarter of mums and dads seeing more politically inspired monikers in their area, the research revealed.

Superhero names have also seen a rise in numbers including Kara from Supergirl, Harley (and Quinn) from Suicide Squad and Felicity (Smoak), from the smash hit comic book series Arrow all seeing an increase. Star Wars names such as Leia, Kylo, and Finn have also had a boost, with the name Ezra featuring in the top 100 names for the first time last year.

One of the unexpected trends includes Muslim names going mainstream, with a increase of six per cent of non-Muslim families using Muslim names, with names like Zane, Zahra, Ayesha, Farah and Omar gaining popularity.

Traditional English names like Sarah, Emma, Penelope and Lucy are fashionable with 61% of parents for girls .

So-called “unicorn names” have seen a four per cent rise, including Rainbow, Twinkle, Sassy, Sparkle and Princess, with Viking / Scandi names such as Magnus, Agnes, Freya and Astrid becoming trendy among new parents.

Gender Neutral names have also seen a sharp rise up the charts, with names such as Alex, Charlie, Elliott, Ellis, Max and Sydney giving them a boost.

The survey has shown that over half of new parents find it difficult to choose the right name for their baby , with one in three arguing with their partner over the choice.

Over 70 per cent of those asked believe that children are judged by their name.
