	PandaKISS picked Carlotta: In the book Madame Giry was barely in it and she DID NOT save Erik from anything! she was basically his go between the mangers and she wasn't even the ballet mistress, and she was pretty stupid too, Erik just used her and don't get me started on Meg... who was mention maybe twice in the book. Granted Carlotta was about as active as Giry (except for her famous frog-in-throat scene) but she is still a fun character and I like her more in the musical than Giry (who could of been removed completely as far as I'm concerned) all she does is greatly simply the Persian's role (who is a great foil for Erik in the book LOVE their relationship) and adds to an invented past of Erik's. Carlotta gets an upgrade in the musical but its for the better and she plays a good foil to the phantom, while being quite witty at the same time. posted over a year ago.
