But only if the production mamebers would be some of those who are known to respect novels they're adapting. It'd kill me to see that novel butchered. As it's one fanfiction that atctually deserves to be a publishend novel. In my opinion. It doesn't even remind me of a fanfiction story, most of the time.

I sometimes read a review that complained that the author apparently thinks that there can be no good story withoyt sex, or something like that, but who the hell cares? She obviously wanted a trace of Erik lefr on the face of the earth, something that would significantly affect C & R's life and in the end E & R's rivalry - and what would do it better than a child of Erik's? I personally think the ending was perfect for the love triangle's depth. So sorry, person X, but there was really only one way to have a child during that century. ;D (Apart from abduction and adopting, of course, but you know.)

I loved Kay's novel for the most part. I almost didn't buy it because of some of the nasty reviews it got (which turned out to be stupid, worthless opinions of people who don't know a good book from a Twilight novel) but I was so glad I read it. I almost like it more than Leroux's book only because it focuses so completely on Erik and I couldn't give a flying fladoodle around anyone else but him. I think it deserves it's own movie. I think it would be really captivating as long as they stayed in between the lines of Leroux and Kay. I'd really love to see that scene of him in Persia with the skeleton coming to life with my eyes instead of my imagination. Also I'd love to see a phantom that actually looked as ugly as Kay and Leroux described. OH and him with Giovanni! Yes. I think it'd be an amazing movie!!!

Honestly I never really liked the Kay novel. There are some really good ideas in it and it definitely has the potential but there are some minor/major details which just make me don't like it (No offense for those who love it!). I will tell you why.

First of all I think a really good fanfiction makes me not think of the fact that "omg I'm reading a fanfiction". I can tell you that I didn't find any phanfictions that are capable of this so far. The Kay novel has it's own moments when it just shouts "hey! I am a FANFICTION!!" (that's my opinion, still no offense). As I said there are good ideas in it about Erik's past and some really meaningful lines and I really like the idea that she wanted to focus on him but there are some points which I can't really understand. For example I never got to the conclusion when reading the Leroux novel that his father died before he was born (I read multiple translations and I still don't get it why would be this so evident). I also don't get the whole part in Italy. I would have been happier if she would have stayed closer to the description given in the original book.

Also I can imagine Erik as someone who loves animals, but he is definitely not the natural born "crazy cat lady" according to my opinion. He had a dog as a kid? Ok I have one too, why not? Had cats in Persia? Why not? Persian cats! Had a cat throughout of the incidents of the Leroux novel (and if he would really have a cat it would have been mentioned I think)? *rolling eyes* Antoher detail that I find too fanfiction like. But it would be still acceptable.

But the ending. According to me it just makes the whole love triangle tedious and soap opera like and destroys the purity of the original ending. Yes, the main thing why I love the original ending more than any other (even way more than the musical which I also really love!) is the purity. That kiss on the forehead is such an innocent wayx of expressing his feeling but those feelings are expressed perfectly with it! Erik and Christine has such a strange unearthly relationship and it makes it even more unearthly. I just like that when Christine tells Raoul how she saw Erik's face and she says that when he was shouting at her she was so scared of that he would maybe do something with her (you know rape or something..) but she said that he didn't do anything like that and she saw that he had something in him of the angel.

Now sex just destroys this all and punches it into the very very earthly ground. Theirs relationship needs no physicality because it is not about the physicality. Christine's grief about his father, the music, all that gratitude and pity that Christine feels for Erik... these are just a few of those things that bonds them. And imagine a 20 year old girl having sex with a 50 somethng year old man who looks like a zombie and smells like death. I truly adore Erik, but Erik or not the age difference is gross on it's own...

And it is so out of character. Christine would simply become nothing in my eyes if this would happen (although Leroux Christine is my favourite!!). She would never betray Raoul. Never. And I didn1t talk about having sex without marriage and getting pregnant and also a girl like Christine when would get the idea of having sex with someone just because he loves you? A normal girl doesn't have sex with men just because they say they love her.

For Raoul this ending is really cruel. Imagine losing the only love of your life getting to know that she betrayed you with the asshole who scared the shit out of her and stalked her for months, tortured you almost to death and killed your beloved borther and you will have to raise the spawn of this asshole too. I think I said enough about this.

As for Erik... He would also become nothing in my eyes too. He would never got Chritine into a situation that she could regret later and which would make her feel ashamed I'm pretty sure. Why are there so many people who thinks that sex was a main reason for Erik to get a wife?? I understand that Kay wanted a part of Erik to stay in htis world but I think giving him a child is just unnecessary. I mean if Erik would have borned with a normal face or if would have been just simply accepted with his mind and talents he would have become one of the best things that have happened to the Earth in the history of human civilization. The original ending is like "F@#k you society! You lost this because of your shallow thinking!" I also think that the way Erik affects their future relationship is more like a lifelong mental thing so I found the child still totally unnecessary.

All in all I find this a similar scenario to lnd. Just think about it: There is an amount of E/C shipping in it (I can recommend you to read WildConcerto's article: Erik/Christine an analysis which really worths reading I think) because they have sex and a child and they can be together happily in the afterlife. And of course there is an amount of unaccountable Raoul hatred because of the things he suffers as I told above.

Well that's all. Sorry for the long comment and sorry if I offended anyone who loves this book (I really didn't want to) but thisis my opininon. Anyway a film made of the Leroux novel where Erik has his original defortmity would be great.

wanderingchild7,

you know, people would be more willing to read that if you used paragraphs.
I'll read it and possibly comment on it if you make it into a bit more readable format. :)

bendainmortal,

thanks :) I can't believe I forgot about the paragraphs. XD An article would be even better for this. Maybe next time when I want to write this much stuff I will write an article not a comment.
