The romantacised mystery of him, compassion or pity and he is hot. :-)

As I've grown older it's more of a Guardian/Avenging Angel (Leroux/ Claude Rains) and Father Figure (Charles Dance) that draws me to him. I have more empathy with Christine, in the original novel now then I did at first, for a start my dad died, then I found out that my Mom told me she had lied about Santa Claus being real out of love, just like Erik lied to Christine about him being the Angel of Music out of love, and like Christine being mad at Erik, i was mad at my Mom. I understand Christine's willingness to believe what her dying father told her, and as nice as it is for parents to tell their kid Santa is real, Erik is just as nice.

Plus the compassion as well.
