Christine does make some questionable decisions throughout the story, but that doesn't mean that her character is weak or sexist. Today we tend to hold women to this ideal standard of strong (outspoken, sassy, independent, and defensive). Being strong doesn't always mean being able to physically fight back or not needing someone to rely on. Christine demonstrates the strength of compassion and open mindedness. She wants to make the right decision but she doesn't know which one is the right one. Her heart tells her to choose Erik because he's so tormented and lonely. Her mind tells her to choose Raoul because he's an overall nice guy and because the Phantom is incredibly dangerous and unstable. In the end, she briefly returns to show Erik one final sign of kindness before she says good-bye. Despite all of the horrible things that he did to her and Raoul, she still forgives him. Sometimes forgiveness is the greatest strength a woman can posses.
