First of all, when the Phans said THIS was the worst version I decided NOT to compare it to Leroux, (or ANY other version) Second of all, I also watch other Horror movies and had ended up watching another film of his called "Jennifer" in the process, that had the same type of sex and gore elements that his version of POTO has, so I watched it with a "Horror" mind-set. (Which made non-face-related inconsistencies easier to ignore.) Third of all, the 1962 version is just as bad as this one, just a different genre. (which is why I put these two one the same poll, they only can only be compare to each other, for it to be a fair comparison) The 1962 version was so inconsistent with Leroux's novel that the differences were impossible to ignore, it was easier to ignore that the Dario Argento's Phantom had no deformity because he sounded like a version of Leroux's Erik to me, because he sounded just as unhinged, and proved to be just as dangerous, but I CUOLD notice other inconsistencies AT ALL. I think to Dario Argento had the Phantom and Christine in love, because that's what he thought the Phans wanted to see. In fact, MOST adaptations of POTO are not close enough to compare to Leroux without being bad. so I end up not comparing most of them. That being said, I like BOTH, and would watch them again.
