Yes, I know there are others who were far, far less likeable than James...and that I should have probably picked Voldemort, but I'm trying to be honest here.

I must admit my mouse kept gravitating towards James Potter and I had to make myself pick Voldemort. Intellectually Voldemort is my least favourite, but feelings wise James gets the vote. And since there are already so many votes for James, I went with Voldemort.

So, Bellatrix and Voldemort - evil. But they did not hide that they were evil. They were not 'best' friends with people they then turned around and betrayed. They did severely evil things, but you knew they were evil. You knew to expect evil from them. And they held to their own rules.

Sirius, was a little $h^t during his childhood. But, I hope, with maturity, he grew out of the bullying, and hopefully looked back on some of the stunts he pulled, with a little regret and remorse.
The same for James, while he was an instigating little $h^t also in school, I hope, especially with him also becoming a parent, that he too may have gained some perspective.
(Though I will never truly forgive them for their terrorizing and bullying of my fLove Severus.)

But, Peter, was friends with Lily/ames, and he turned them over to Voldemort. Betraying trust, then turned from that point onward into evil. Hiding himself among children. Becoming a willing tool of evil. He had no code that he believed in. The only thing you could trust him to do, was whatever would serve himself.

Since this is personal opinion only....I think Severus had some respect for Voldemort and Bellatrix.
And once Severus knew Sirius was not responsible for Voldemort's finding Lily, I think Sirius dropped to being just the 'dog' from his childhood.
And James, well, Lily chose James. And I don't believe he could truly wish total evil on James because Severus truly loved Lily, and he would know that anything that hurt James would devastate Lily because she loved him. And when you really love someone, you want them to be happy. You may wish they would be happy with you, but overall, you truly just want them to be happy, even if its without you.

And, he had total disdain for Peter. Thought him worthless. Then he finds out that Peter is the one that led Voldemort to Lily. He may have hated what Voldemort and Bella became, hated the Sirius and James of the past, but I really think he would have abhored Peter as a betrayer, murderer, 'yes' man, and overall trully weakwilled coward that Peter was.

Well...I have no idea (and trust me I really don't know why anyone would like this guy but..) why anyone would like Peter Pettigrew! I mean come on! Let's count the reasons to hate that character! 1. Betrayed his friends...2....No,no, actually number one is all that one needs.And there are people out there who actually like this guy! That's nuts!

why do people pick James, Neville, Harry, Remus or Sirius? What's wrong with those people? Is it because many of them died?

Ach! Yuck! Just seeing his name gives me goosebumps!!!
