Severus and lily.
This is in no way me trying to rewrite what Rowling did, cause it's awesome, I just wanted to write something that showed Severus and Lily getting together. So here is my attempt, hope someone out there likes it.
He who must not be named stepped over James' body and stalked towards the door, where on the other side Lily Potter was trying to pile items against it. A futile attempt to protect herself and her infant son. She rushed over and put Harry in his crib. Panic stretched across her face, Harry couldn't die, he just couldn't. A flash and a bang and Lily knew He had blown open the door. She stood arms flung out in front of Harry.
"Please, don't hurt Harry!"
"Stand aside you silly girl!" Voldemort snarled.
"Please! No! Don't hurt him! I beg you!"
"I said MOVE!" he screamed. He grabbed her by the hair and threw her out of his way. Her head hit the side of the half destroyed wardrobe and she laid on the floor unmoving. Voldemort then turned his wand to Harry, a smile of victory dashed across his face.
"Avada kedavra!" a flash of green light, a loud bang and a scream of pain and Voldemort was defeated by an infant. He became less than even a ghost. Harry's forehead had a lightning shaped cut slashed into it and he began to cry.
Severus Snape crouched in a passageway opposite the Potter's house, overcome with grief he sobbed uncontrollably. He was too late. The dark lord had killed his Lily. The door hung on it's hinges, it can only have been a few minutes since it was broken. Severus was devastated, if only Wormtail had told him where the house was straight away. He'd had to threaten him for 10 minutes before he could aperrate there, and now he was too late. A few muggles had started to gather in the street in front of the house. Severus made a decision. He got to his feet and tried to steel himself for what he was about to do. He had to go in there. He had to see her one last time. He quickly crossed the street and slipped, unnoticed by the muggles, into the house. Slowly and carefully he climbed the stairs. He stepped past James's lifeless body and walked towards the doorway where Lily had made her last stand. He heard Harry crying, something wasn't right why wasn't he dead? Determined now, Severus stepped through the ruined doorway. Before he could look for Harry, however, he saw Lily's body strewn on the floor, her beautiful hair spread across her and he collapsed. His Lily was gone. He started sobbing again harder than ever before. His world had ended. He took her body in his arms and shook with grief, his tears falling into her beautiful red hair.
"Why?!" he screamed. Then unnoticed by the devastated Severus, Lily's eyes began to flicker.
Lily woke to a pain in her head, Harry crying and wrapped in someone's arms. Someone who was crying like their world had ended. She stirred, moving her arms slightly and the grip holding her loosened tightly. She looked towards Harry's cot and noticed he'd stopped crying. Then she looked up. She saw a face above her who looked like he'd lived through hell. Someone she once knew so well.
"Sev?" she muttered.
"L...Lilly..." he choked. "I ...I thought....you were....d..." a sob cut off his last word.
"I'm fine. I don't know what happened." she replied. "my head really hurts"
" I can't.... believe you're... allright" Sev sobbed.
"I can't believe you're here." she said "what are you doing here?" She hoped he wouldn't let go of her. It felt so right to be in his arms, even after all these years some part of her had never gotten over Severus.
" I...I came to stop the dark lord." he said. "Lily I can't bear to be apart from you."
"Wha...?" she began but he cut her off.
"Just listen before anything else happens, I'm sorry for everything. I've stopped using the dark arts. I'm a double agent, working for Dumbledore. "
"Sev, I know, and all that other stuff....that was all years ago its forgiven, forgotten."
"Not by me Lily. I love you." he whispered. A tiny part of him hoped she hadn't heard him. She'd married James. She'd never thought of him that way. Or had she?
"I love you too Sev." she said her green eyes brimming with tears. "You should have told me years ago. I should have told you." her heart skipped a beat. She was the happiest she'd felt since having Harry but a small part of her squirmed. What about James? As if reading her mind Severus asked.
"But James. You married James?" he tried to not let her see how elated he'd become since she said that to him. He didn't want it taken away so quickly.
"Yes I married James. I love James. But I loved you all along Sev. I never stopped thinking about you...where is James anyway?" she looked at Severus expectantly. He choked up. She didn't know. How could he tell her?
"Lily....James is....I know he loved you...he's gone Lily" Lily broke out into sobs. Severus understood, he'd been there 10 minutes ago when he thought she was dead. She wrapped her arms around him and lent her head on his chest as she cried.
"It's ok darling. I'm here for you. I'm not leaving you anymore. I love you Lily" He tightened his arms around her. Severus knew, even though this was a sad time, he'd treasure this moment forever. After a short while, Lily looked up tears still streaming down her face.
"Sev.... can you bring.... Harry..... here?" she whispered
"Of course" he replied. He gently released his arms from around her, not wanting to let go. He stood up and turned to the cot where he gently lifted Harry up. It felt so right to hold him, Severus wondered if this was how it felt to be a father. He handed Harry to Lily. She took him in her arms and held him tightly for a second before reaching out with am arm to Severus. She wants me, he thought. He gladly wrapped his arms around her. The three of them sat together on the floor. Eventually Lily, whose grief seemed to have subsided for a while, spoke.
"We need to tell Dumbledore...." she muttered.
"It's OK I'll do it" Severus replied he made a move to stand up but she stopped him.
"Wait Sev," then unexpectedly she pulled him in and kissed him. A sad kiss but full of love and passion. He returned her kiss, not wanting it to end.
"I love you, always." she said.
"And I love you." he replied. "let me send this patronus." she nodded as he stood up and took out his wand.
"expecto patronum" he said, the silver doe burst forth and ran off to deliver it's message.
He returned to Lily who wore a sad smile. He gazed into her green eyes, captivated as he always was. He had never been so happy.
When Dumbledore arrived he insisted that Severus, Lily and Harry were to go with him to Hogwarts before going anywhere else. Severus was slightly annoyed at this, he wanted nothing more than to protect Lily and her son. He had carried her out of Godric's Hollow so she didn't have to see James' body, while Dumbledore carried Harry. He had intended to take them to Spinner's End, to his home. Where Lily and Harry could rest and, when Lily was ready they could talk. Instead they were sat in Dumbledore's office. Dumbledore had conjured up a cot for Harry to sleep in.
"I do not intend to keep you long." Dumbledore began. "I'm sure you have lots you want to discuss." his eyes flashed at Severus.
"I'm sorry to do this so soon Lily." he continued "but I must check, James wanted to be buried in Godric's Hollow, did he not?" Lily just nodded tears filling her eyes again. Severus looked at her, longing to hold her in his arms.
"I'll arrange it for Sunday coming." Lily nodded again.
"Please can't we go? She's been through too much tonight." Severus said.
"I have only two more things Severus." Dumbledore replied. "where will you be staying Lily?" she looked at Severus and opened her mouth, but before words could form Severus stepped in.
"With me. For as long as she desires." Lily's eyes lit up slightly and Severus felt his stomach flip.
" Very well, finally about Harry's protection...."
"He doesn't need protection the dark lord is gone." Severus almost shouted. He was starting to get angry.
"The dark lord will come again, and when he does Harry will be in danger."
"Then I'll protect him. With my life if necessary." Severus said boldly. Again Lily's eyes lit up, much more noticeably this time. She looked at Severus with a look full of love. Severus noticed and smiled at her returning her look with just as much love.
"Excellent!" Dumbledore exclaimed. Both Lily and Severus jumped, they'd forgotten anyone else was there.
"I shall leave you in peace then, goodnight." Dumbledore said finally. Lily and Severus stood up to leave. Severus lifted Harry out of the magical cot and it disappeared instantly. As soon as they'd left the office and were making their way down the rotating staircase, Lily threw her arms around Severus.
"Thank you Sev, I love you so much." Severus grinned and kissed her softly. She wrapped her arms around his neck. Holding the still sleeping Harry in one arm and holding Lily with the other, Severus lead the trio out of the school gates where they could disapperate.
After what felt like years they were finally in Severus' house at Spinner's End. Lily took Harry from Severus and put him to sleep in a room upstairs. She made her way downstairs, walking straight ahead into the living room. Severus was waiting for her, sat in an armchair by the fire. He looked at her as she entered, a kind smile on his face, he was rather handsome, especially when he smiled. She walked over and kissed him. She tried to put all she felt towards him into that kiss. He kissed her just as passionately back. He caressed her face with his hand, brushing his fingers through her beautiful red hair. She caught his gaze, his black eyes like deep pools she could swim in. The way he looked back she knew he was just as captivated by her. She sat in his lap and wrapped her arms around him, leaning in his chest gently. He put his arms around her tightly. He never wanted this to end. He could stay here forever. They sat there for what felt like an age, until Severus heard her breathing change and he knew she was asleep. Gently he lifted her up and took her upstairs to his bedroom. She laid her in bed and sat and watched her sleep for a while. Drinking in how beautiful she was. Then he rose and walked towards the door. Before he could even reach out for the handle he heard a soft voice behind him.
"Please Sev, don't leave me. Stay here. I need you with me."
"Always" he replied. His heart leapt as he got into the bed next to her and she cuddled into him.
"Sev," Lily whispered. "did you mean everything you said tonight?"
"Every word, my love."
"Even the things about Harry?"
He turned her over so he could look into her eyes. She laced her arms around his neck and played with his hair. He held her even more tightly.
"Even more so."
"Really?"
"Really. He's your son. He's a part of you. How could I not want him in my life? Why do you ask?"
"Because he's James' son too. I know you and James hated each other."
"Yes, it's no secret. I resented James because he could spend time with you that I couldn't. He could be with you and I couldn't. Because I wasn't man enough to realise that the dark arts are no game. James was. But Lily that little boy next door has no father. I don't want to replace James. I could never do that. But if you want me to stay in your life, then I want to be there for that boy as well." Lily's smile was broader than ever, her eyes brighter.
"I've never been more in love with you Severus Snape." she said "I want you in my life forever. I don't want you to ever leave."
"Then I'll never leave you, Lily I'm yours, always." Then they kissed, and fell asleep in each others arms.
A year after James' funeral, Lily was walking down the aisle again. Harry was toddling, walking around for longer and longer before falling down. He giggled behind her and saw he was playing with the buttons on his suit. She sighed, Severus was right, he's never going to stay in that all day. Then the vicar poked his head round the door and said "We're ready for you now." Lily nodded and picked Harry up. The music started and the doors opened. Lily started walking slowly and caught sight of Severus stood at the front of the church. He was smiling at her tears forming slightly in his eyes.
"Here we go Harry," she whispered into the little boy's ear.
Severus looked at Lily walking down the aisle toward him. She looked amazing. Her red hair curling round her face and down her back. Her dress was stunning and showed off her figure. She looked radiant in white. And in her arms the little boy he loved like a son. Severus had never been happier in his life. The moment was only made better from the knowledge that Lily was carrying his child. Severus would finally have his own family, with the only woman he would ever love. As she stood next to him he wrapped his arm around her. With Lily, Harry and their unborn child at his side, Severus felt like he could have done anything. He hoped that, if he were watching, James Potter was happy for his former wife to love again. Then the vicar began to speak.
"I do," Lily said finally, the service was over. There was only one thing left.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." the vicar finished.
"Gladly" Severus whispered, Lily laughed.
"Oh Sev, kiss me." They kissed and everyone clapped.
"I love you Sev."
"I love you too Lily." he whispered back. "Always.
