SCANDAL is an all-girl pop punk band from Osaka, Japan who made their "indie" debut in 2008. They have released 3 singles on the Kitty label that were sold exclusively at Tower Records Japan; they have since become available on iTunes in both the US and Japan. However, because Kitty released their singles in such limited quantities, in 2008 they got Sony to sign them onto their Epic Records label. Due to Sony's ongoing disagreements with Apple Inc. over their iTunes Music Store and Sony's own Mora, the band's music which was formerly available on iTunes, was quickly removed from both the US and Japanese iTunes stores.
SCANDAL was formed by 4 high school classmates in Osaka, Japan in 2006. They first performed in public as street performers in Osaka's Castle Park. Over time their performances began to draw a regular, enthusiastic crowd and they began to catch the attention of people in the music business. Scandal were invited to perform at various venues around Osaka and Kyoto and they eventually were invited to perform at events in Tokyo as well.
Scandal released their first indie single on March 3, 2008. Subsequent singles were released monthly on April 4 and May 5. In April, Scandal performed at Japan Night at the "South by Southwest Music Fest" in Austin, Texas, USA and toured the country with other Japanese Bands, performing in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Seattle. They returned to Seattle shortly afterwards to perform at the anime convention "Sakuracon".
Scandal has since returned to Japan and has been busy performing at various events while writing and recording new songs. There has been no announcement as of yet about future releases. Scandal is scheduled to perform at the "Japan Expo 2008" in Paris, France.
