If we just take the raw definition of homophobia as "irrational fear of homosexual people", then no, its not ignorance. Its an irrational fear, like fear of heights. For most homophobic people, they might know they're homosexual inside but need to hide it ('cause society sucks) so they project homophobic thoughts.
So...it depends on what type of homophobia the person has. Not all of them has to be vocal, and simply discouraging homosexuality or not wanting it doesn't necessarily make the person homophobic.
More of the vocal ones, I would say most are ignorant and hateful. My boyfriend had a pretty rough ride in his life.

Hmm....though, I kinda want to pick yes because it has a hotter picture lol..

i think too many people who aren't afraid to speak their minds get branded labels like these just as a way to discredit them and their opinions... mainly because it's so much easier to tie someone in with something bad or hated and win the argument on baseless grounds instead of putting the effort in to prove them wrong (or even possibly get proven wrong yourself)

TBH, it all depends on what you call "homophobic" and to what extent is it judged.

Extremely. It's not a phobia, it is ignorance.

I do not understand why such hatred towards someone who is homosexual. Some people claim that it is because of the bible, but I read the bible and two things LOVE and GOD is the JUDGE not man seem to be mentioned much more. Also, where homosexuality is referred to, other things like sleeping with someone that is not your spouse is referred to at the same time, yet those that are homophobic don't have the same animosity towards everyone who is sleeping around. For me, I don't feel it is my position to judge what 2 consenting adults do, as long as they are not hurting anyone - ie their spouse who they are cheating on - that is between them and God.

It depends. I actually read somewhere that Jesus was never against gay people, and it's just the translation from one language to another.

Gay people are still people and as long as no guy tries to flirt with me I'm fine with it

Telling people to have an open mind is already having a closed mind to the idea of having a closed mind...
