Regina: Much like Elphaba, she was at first trying to save her true love but finds that she can't. She realizes that by saving Snow White, which was a good deed, she ends up being punished by having her true love killed. Also in season 2 when she tries to be good but no one is giving her a break (other than Emma, Henry, and Archie) and starts to wonder if she was really seeking good or just seeking attention. She decides if the world refuses to give her a chance and to see her as evil that she would give them exactly that and would never do another good deed again.

Zelena: She's told that she can't go back in time or change the laws of magic but she's determined to do it. Everyone says that magic is limited but she's threw accepting it. She learned about her past and it was too late to forget it and "go back to sleep." She tried to be good but everyone thinking she was wicked drove her back to being evil. Along with Rumple, who she loved, not feeling anything for her and just saw her as a pawn. Which goes to the line "If that's love it comes at much to high a cost." She does end up defying the laws of magic by going back in time and even cheating death for crying out loud. She did MUCH more than just defy gravity, she defied the laws of magic! Everyone deserves a chance to fly and she's trying to get her chance.
