Why wasn't Cora's heart this dark? Was it protected because it was outside her body when she did all those horrible thing? Does that mean she would have had a fresh start when it was put back?

^Exactly. Even Snow said that Gina's more dangerous than Cora because her heart is blackened, unlike Cora who's still got her "Pure Heart" locked away for safe keeping.

This was such an emotional, heartstring pulling scene full of #EvilRegalFeels!

@minervadawn that's a good question. And then there's the fact that Cora was emotionless(ish) without her heart in her body and Gina gave the most sweet and loving smile when she mentioned Henry even without her heart.

^ That being "incapable of love" thing with Cora always baffled me. Didn't Graham fall in love with Emma even when Gina had his heart? And after Rumple took Milah's heart she was still able to tell Hook that she loved him.

^^ I think so, and Milah still loved Hook so... And did Aurora still have the ability to love? I was gonna say maybe it's the result of ripping your own heart out, but Gina disproved that theory.

^ Aurora still had the ability to care about others over herself at least. She locked herself in that cell so that she couldn't be used to stop Snow and Emma from getting back home.

That's true. So maybe it's just a plot hole, or Cora's just special.

Maybe it depends on how long you stay without your heart? Cora didn't have her heart almost her WHOLE life and she lived pretty long. Graham also stayed without his heart for quite a long time (he never got it back sadly). That's why I also think Graham wasn't able to love Emma. I mean he thought he did love her but he just actually didn't feel anything (because he was missing a heart). He said that himself. I mean he did say he needed to feel something so that's why he kissed Emma because he thought SHE will make him feel something. They did go on that little quest to get his heart and love back. :)

It must've been extremely hard & emotional for her to pull out her own "dark heart!" She was/is so BRAVE!

I think she's probably one of the bravest characters on the show.
