I think Maleficent and Aurora's mother were either best friends or sisters and something might have happened between them. Maybe they were both in love with Aurora's father and because he choose her mother Maleficent got angry. It would be logic but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm really curious to see why Mal hates them so much. It seems like a longterm personal vendetta. But as long as her reason is different from Gina's I'll be happy.
