I like Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, but to be honest, Kishimoto's view on women makes me furious.

@Ryuuto013 Hello, thank you for your comment, how would you like the female characters to be? Is it just Hinata or are we talking you wish they would 'just have more involvement in general' ?

I really don't think there's anything majorly wrong with the females, though I do wish they had more involvement in the action-y parts. :/
I also think it needs more romance parts. And no more character deaths! There's already enough character deaths! >.<
It's really just all the filler that 'ruins' the anime. But if you take that out, Naruto is actually a pretty good series. Decent at the least.
Even with all those flaws, I still love it~ ^.^

^ Yes, that! It actually deserves every ounce of popularity & recognition it gets. I mean, Kishi-sensei worked so hard on it for 15+ years, there's bound to be some mistakes throughout the way. But it was still good until the very end~ ^_^

I really don't see the fuss over the treatment of female characters. I think they're treated just fine in the series. No, they're not the strongest female characters in manga and other manga do it better, but I'm okay with that. In Japanese society, a lot of women are expected to quit their jobs once they're married or become a mother - being a wife/mother and having a career is usually an either/or scenario - and a lot of women do have marriage on their minds a lot of the time (although times are changing, believe me). In that respect, I think they're doing quite well in the Narutoverse (Iruka's mother was still a shinobi after becoming a mother, for example). Japanese society is collectivist, not individualistic, meaning they emphasize more on family, community, and overall social harmony and less on individuality (this being more prominent in the countryside where Kishimoto grew up). Women are expected to be feminine, and a tomboy that loves fighting is deemed unattractive a lot of the time. Because the emphasis on fitting in and following the family's values are so extreme, it makes sense that a character sometimes wouldn't want a woman in a battle, for example, not because she's a "weak woman", but because women can carry on the family by having children, which is something much more important in this society than a Western society. What Kishimoto wrote was simply a reflection on what he saw in the real world - in fact, it's actually an improvement on the real world, because a character like Tsunade or Temari is still a far cry from the "ideal woman" by Japanese standards.

And quite frankly, I would choose these female characters any day over those bland, unoriginal bad-ass Mary Sues we get in a lot of Western fiction.

*I'm probably going to regret opening up this can of worms the second I post this comment*
