Loki (Thor 2011) Do you get mad that the comics and/or movie twisted the original Norse mythology?

I keep seeing this pop up on Tumblr: there's this group of people "educated" in Norse mythology, and they keep complaining about how people are "ignorant" and such, because of what they say regarding certain characters (i.e. Loki), because the "ridiculous" comics and movies twisted the original mythology.

I'm fairly certain no one here feels it to the extreme they do (at least I'd hope no one on the Loki fanspot would compare liking Loki to liking Satan :x), but it just made me curious if anyone else was upset about how they twisted the mythology.

people should learn to separate pop-culture stuff from real myths/legends/beliefs and general facts.. I don't min when there are some differences and I say even more - trough those movies some young kids will like to know more about ancient culture and it's wonderful, for example me: I saw as a little kiddo Stargate and fall in love in Egypt, at home I have tons of books dedicated to Egypt history and mythology, every time when there is on Discovery Chanel a program about ancient Egypt - I watch it.

I've grown up with Norse mythology, thus the first half of my username. Yes, it does tend to annoy me when people mess up the mythology - but I can live with it. Honestly I thought 'Thor' followed Norse mythology better than the 'Clash of the Titans' followed Greek mythology. *That* movie drove me insane. And to me, it's not the skin color or any of that junk of the movies that annoys me - it's the relationships, names, etc. Loki and Thor were adopted-uncle and adopted-nephew in the mythology, not brothers, but I can let it pass. I'm fine with it. It's cool.

I know both the mythology and the comic story and there are pro's and con's to what both stories have to offer. The creator of the comics never meant for anyone to take his stories so seriously. He was just trying to make a story that would get people interested in the Norse Gods sense there were not a whole lot of people that knew about them, most were focused on just the greek gods. So by doing Thor, he got people to look into the real mythology.

It was my former obsession with Loki from the original norse mythology (especially the version of him in the fiction book runemarks) that drove me to watch thor...At first I wouldn't watch it because of how they twisted many things about Loki, but now it is like being obsessed with two different Lokis, the 'original' as I call it version, and the thor or as I call it lately 'avengers version' :P

I didn't know much about Norse mythology, and I loved the movie "Thor". I then read a little about Norse Mythology. Didn't like Loki's story there.....I prefer what was done with him in the movie. And he's totally the true King of Asgard, by the way.

@katekicksass How is Loki the true king of Asgard? He's egotistical, power-hungry, and irrational. I love him but Thor would make a better king.... sorry Loki.
