She looked at me and picked up her lunch tray shoving it in my face. I shaked my head, to signal no and to stop a smile forming from appearing. But being as determined as she was picked up her sandwich and held it to my mouth.
“Open up”
Again I shaked my head and leaned my head down on the table again. My heart was beating faster.
“Please” she said appearing under my arm, “I won’t stop until you eat something whole”
“Why do you care?’’ I asked her.
“Well I saw what those guys did to you and I thought that if I was in your position I would want someone to share their lunch with me’’
Again she lifted her sandwich up to my mouth. This time I opened my mouth and took a bite. It was delicious.
“Thank you” I said while chewing and she hit me on the arm.
“Swallow first”
That was the first day I met her and she instantly became my best and only friend. She was the only one who I could trust and actually count on. We were like opposites. My favorite color was blue and her’s red and black. They always say opposites attract.
We got up laughing and walked down the hallway to our next class. Then all of a sudden the boys from the cafeteria appeared and threw me in the garbage. They started laughing and soon the whole school joined them. But instead of joining them; she helped me out and cleaned me up.
She helped me get through high school and then college. We were there for each other through everything from heartaches to marriage. She looked after me when no one else wanted to and that’s why I can’t let her go. She will always be in my heart.
I parked the car on the side walk before rushing in past the security guard and into the elevator. She was on the 5 th floor and I nearly damaged the button by pressing it too much. Finally the doors opened and I rushed through. I started running down the hallway looking for room 429. How did I know what room she was in? I‘ve been here before. That night they got married I followed them here. I only got my heart broken from what I heard and saw. But I forgave her. She didn’t have a child and that was the good part.
I reached for the door and tried to open it but it was locked.
“Demi?” I shouted and leaned my ear against the door to see if I could hear anything.
I could only hear the soft whisper of “Save …me”.
I took a few steps back before throwing my self against the door . It didn’t open at first but with a few more tries I succeeded. I walked in holding my left arm.
“Demi?” I said.
The place was a mess, things broken and scattered on the ground. I walked through the small living room and then to the bed room. My heart shattered when I saw Demi in the bed, pale and covered with blood. I went forward to her and cradled her in my arms.
“I’m here” I whispered in her ear.
She looked up at me then wrapped her arms around my neck. Her face was red like she was crying.
“We …. Had a fight……..he got angry……….he hit me……….over and over”
“It’s alright” I said and gently kissed her forehead. She then started crying remembering the moments. My heart tightened as I realized that he caused her this much pain. I hated him more than ever.
“Demi, was this the first?”
She shook her head and then continued crying in my chest. I hated him with a passion.
I took her up in my arms and stated heading for the door.
“Please don’t. I love him”
It pained me to hear her say those words and after all he did she was still madly in love with him.
“We need to get you out of here before he comes back’’
She gripped unto my shirt and looked up at me through red eyes begging.
“Please’’
“Demi he beat you, next time what happens if he goes too far that it kills you!”
“Please”
I was always there for her. Why couldn’t she have just fallen in love with me? I would have returned her love and never hurt her. But she chose him the heartless douche.
“I told you before, I’m not going to lose you” I said and headed for the door. She started hitting and kicking and leaped out of my hands. She fell to the floor crying hysterically.
“I can’t leave him”
“Demi”
“No! You leave but I’m not coming with you”
“Demi!”
“Leave! I love him and he loves me!”
“He doesn’t love and care for you like I do!”
“Open up”
