Before Al Gore took it upon himself, very few people really understood the seriousness of global warming. He's done more than anyone I can think of to create greater worldwide understanding of the serious threat facing the planet. I'm actually glad he didn't become president, because he wouldn't have had time to focus on this one issue as he has.
No, Gore didn't deserve the Nobel Peace prize for An Inconvenient Truth. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to mitigate man-made climate change, not for the film (he got the Academy Award for that). The film was a very small part of the work that he's done, all of which qualified him for the prize.
He is doing something really good, because he is taking the time to informe everyone how serious is the global warming and how everyone can do somthing to change it.
