I'm just bitter that my phone is gonna stop working and I'm gonna have to pay for a ridiculously expensive new one. I can't afford that. And I have been using this same phone for like 5 years now. I don't want to give it up because it's incompatible with 5g.

link "So now the obvious question is, will old phones work on a 5G network? Unfortunately, no they will not. 5G technology requires additional components to be added to your phone to access the necessary spectrum to produce 5G speeds. Therefore your phone, unless built specifically for 5G connectivity, will not be able to access a 5G network."

I like my old phone :v I don't have an issue with 4g and I am strongly of the 'don't fix what ain't broke' mentality. 4g is fast enough for me tbh.

I have good news for ya! 4G will continue to be supported even as 5G is rolled out

From link: No, 4G LTE shutdown will not be happening for atleast a decade. Therefore, the thing to remember is that 4G will not be going away anytime soon, regardless of how fast the 5G network grows. The plan is for existing 4G LTE networks to be used by carriers well into 2030. 5G networks are not being designed to replace 4G, rather they are designed to work in conjunction with 4G networks.

I was still using a 3G phone (in conjunction with a plan that only gave me like 200mb per month lmao) for two or three years after 4G had been rolled out everywhere. If they had destroyed data capability and made me give up my perfectly-fine 3G phone I would've been fuckign fuming, so I understand completely where you're coming from lol

Kay that's reassuring. I feel like my phone will probably reach the natural end of its lifespan (press f) by the end of the decade. Like that's the most reassuring thing I've heard in a while tbh.

But also I still have a functioning mp3 player from like 2008??? Though, I that thing was from an era when Apple wasn't shit and products were built to last and not become obsolete the second the *~New Big Thing~* came out.
