This question has probs been done in some form or another on this spot, but eh, I don't think there's much harm in re-doing old debate topics from like a decade ago?

No one should be forced to fight in a war, especially if they don't believe in the cause. Vietnam is a classic but good example; people would get drafted but no one knew why they were fighting so much so that there's a link. War is against the morals of some people.

Morals aside, war is terrifying. The prospect of getting shot, stepping on a mine, generally dying or getting captured and/or tortured is horrifying. War causes PTSD, depression, alcoholism, and a slew of other mental illness and people should have a right to reject all of those risks. Some people have the right mentality for war and those people can chose the profession, others are not mentally equipped for it.

Also I think that the age itself should be changed. Why is it that you can get drafted to go off and kill someone (like that's okay) but no alcohol for you! Let's switch that around; you can drink at 18 and get drafted at 21. To be frank I think that a person shouldn't be drafted until 25 (at which point the brain has reached full maturity). 18 is way too young to send someone off to die (possibly against their will).

America is a 'free' country so you should have the right to refuse to fight a war that you don't believe it. I'm just so glad that I'm a very small woman. Even if they started drafting women too, I think I'd be rejected based on height lmao.

Agreed with zanhar1 on this.Nobody should be forced to fight in a war especially considering how terrifying it is for people who clearly aren't mentally equipped for it.

Great points zanhar1. I agree with what you said. I am also glad that I would likely not be drafted even if women had to fight because of my chronic asthma. I know conscientious objectors to drafts existed in the past, but they still had to work for the war to some compacity even though it wasn't through fighting in the war.

Yeah. No country has the right to force a person to fight, especially a young person.
