Summary:
Japan is aiming to cut greenhouse gases to zero by 2050 and become a carbon-neutral society, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has said, in a major shift in position on climate change. The country had previously set no explicit date.

"Responding to climate change is no longer a constraint on economic growth," Mr Suga said.

Japan's target brings it into line with the European Union, which set the same target last year. Chinese President Xi Jinping in September pledged to make his country carbon neutral by 2060.

Japan is the world's fifth-biggest emitter of carbon dioxide.

@ranty Lmao

@zan legit

Was just reading a nice link though: most of the population (at least in Australia) agrees. Key points:
- 68% of Australians agreed that the country should have a target of net-zero emissions by 2050
- 80% of people think we are already experiencing problems caused by climate change, and 83% support the closure of coal-fired power stations
- Despite the pandemic, Australians are more concerned about climate change than ever. The COVID-19 crisis seems to have actually strengthened Australians' resolve to to take action on climate change

We are already link and I'm kinda scared. And I definitely agree with the Australians about climate change being just as scary as the virus.

Hum, caring for the earth is important but anyone saying my country needs to improve is a racist.
