This is an absolute no-brainer. Among many other reasons, consider this: in a first past the post system, non-major parties draw votes away from larger parties that they are most similar to and therefore give an advantage to the large party that they are least similar to. A 3rd party vote is basically worse than a "wasted" vote. Can't believe the US and UK haven't yet evolved to a ranked-choice electoral system.
