Debate Question

do you think the world is fine the way it is?

ive asked more than one question on fanpop stating why is the world like this and why can't we you know...do something about it, most people who answered simply stated that the world is the way it is for a reason, good evil pain suffering love hate...all of these are important and establish some kind of balance, therefore, with that in mind, does anything actually need changing at all? or has it changed at all for the better or for the worse?

For the most part, it is.

There are quite a few things that could use improving.
I think matters of fairness should be improved, and various methods could always be improved.

I am, by no means, in favor of a complete overhaul of humanity.
Again, I think for the most part, things are okay. I find it hard to understand the people who think the world and society are in a state of disaster.

No.

To me, 'fine' implies that nothing needs to be changed, and I don't agree with that. People are being massacred, enslaved, raped, and generally abused everyday. People cannot be them selves without fearing for their well being. (i.e being "out" about their sexuality or religion). People are starving and homeless. None of that is "fine."

yeah but don't you ever think that there might inevitably be evil in the world? will there always be "bad guys" out to get the "good guys" just like in the movies? and how will the world be if all these problems are solved? like a quote i got from the matrix, it could end up being like a dream where people are all trying to escape simply cause it's just too good, at least that's a common theory

my idea of an ideal world is where there is some conflict there's hate anger all the negative emotions just not to the point of murder, but will that satisfy our short attention spans? does a human need to be sacrificed for us to feel like we are truly living?

But, again, I don't believe in good or evil. Those themselves are concrete, black and white terms. And the world doesn't fit into categories like that. In the Chaos-Order dichotomy, there aren't any black and white terms. The rest of what you said... is exactly what I said.

Depends on your definition of "fine" and your metric. You could choose to answer this question from the perspective of whether humanity in particular is doing alright, whether natural resources are still plentiful, the perspective of pollution, looking at living populations as a whole, any combination of those or something else entirely, and all of those could be justified. For me, the most direct answer has nothing to do with life, solely with whether the planet is still orbiting the sun and remains a planet in designation. Since we're not Pluto, and since we still orbit just fine on our usual axis, yeah, I'd say the world is fine the way it is.

Edit: That was weird, submitted it by phone, and I hadn't seen the article that I copy-pasted that Mitt Romney bit from in days. Well, it's fixed now.
