Debate Question

Do you think the bible was created by God?

Yes and no.The verses do not sound right to me.Some of them do not sound like the character of God.It sounds like the character of a human being.I believe God wouldn't state terrors, hate, etc.I don't think using words like "abomination" would come from the mouth of God.

This really should have been asked on the Christianity spot.

But, for the record, no, I don't think the Bible was created by God, considering it's been proven (a good couple a hundred years ago, no less) to have been written by humans. They were potentially inspired by God and Jesus, but that's it.

Well, there's no doubt that many of the rewrites came about well after the original writing of the bible. The New Testament was written well after Jesus's death, so I'd have some major questions if it was written by God. The Old Testament has more muddled origins, but generally, I don't see any of the text as being the result of a deity of any sort.

I guess my main reason why is that I can't understand why such an all powerful, all knowing being would view these words as being the most essential, so much so that that deity would send it down as the sole source of their thoughts conveyed directly to all of humanity. Accepting that would make me question the very existence of that deity.

Nope. But I don't believe in any gods at all, so whether or not one wrote or had any influence on the bible is kinda irrelevant.

Not for a bit. The bible itself even says it was written by humans.

Ok fanpop is being weird... I can't make any changes to my answer... Anyways... The New Testament says it was written by humans. In the Old testament it says; "God created" if they wanted people to believe it was God, it would have said; "I created"

The Bible states that it was inspired by God and written by men.
Even though there have been many translations, they are still true to the oldest manuscripts in existence. There was a fragment found of the book of Matthew which was dated near the 60s A.D. That would mean it was written and circulated during the time period when eye witnesses were still alive. I believe the Bible to be the word of God.
I will admit, no matter who you listen to, or what evidence is presented, it comes down to faith. I choose to believe.

You're right, it does come down to faith, as with most issues that involve religion. That's mainly because religion wasn't meant to be evidence-based, it was meant to explain things people simply didn't have an explanation for. And in many ways, that still holds true today. Whether it is the word of God is extremely contentious, but if you simply choose to believe, then no amount of contrary evidence could dissuade you. I'm not saying that as a bad thing - all of that evidence could be faulted - but the factor of faith does make it difficult to have an open and reasonable argument in many cases.

Um... no... it's been proven to have been written by humans.

Also, personally, I don't believe God actually exists, so... I certainly don't believe he created the bible.

I am reading a short version now (I have to do it for school... Can't really back out :/ ) and I think it wasn't written by God. There is a perspective of vew that God wouldnt look from. Like God would be like Obey me or pey the concenquences, but some storries aren't like that... Most of them are , but not all. And I am really hating it! No afence of enything, but I think what God did was wrong...
