Debate Question

How does anyone feel about the Keystone pipeline project being attached to the payroll tax cut? I think these are two separate issues and should be dealt as such; but I digress. What does anyone else think about it?

To be honest I have not heard much about the Keystone pipeline project. However, I do agree that's it's frustrating when congress attaches to issues that deal with completely different topics. I believe the reasoning for doing such is by attaching a less popular issue to a popular one, it has a better chance of passing. In the process we end up with needless programs and spending, we really don't understand, all to get something good.
Attachments & amendments to a bill should be directly related to the issue dealt with by the bill.
That way, vote one bill, one issue. As a country we could save huge amounts in spending.

Thank you for replying. I asked because I wanted to know how many people were are of the risks involved with the keystone pipeline project and where they stood on that issue. For me, the project is a potential threat to the existing water supply. When I hear a politician shrug-off the potential dangers of contamination, I often wonder whether any of our leaders have lived near communiities where hazardous waste was disposed in nearby water supplies or watched an entire community (including plants and indigenous animals) suffer the consequences. I expected our leaders (whether it be Republican or Democrat) look out for their constuents and instead, all they seem concerned with is apeasing their party but I digress. I understand that attaching a rider's bill (the keystone pipeline project) is a normal practice in congress but I don't think any public representative has the right to toy with people's lives to please their party. Our tax dollars should not be used to appease the few. With that said, I completely agree with Dreamfields. The keystone pipeline project and the payroll tax cut should be a seperate issue.
