Why America is the most depressed country in the world. I want to know what you think of my theory and also a link to any studies done on it.

I haven't looked up much about the supect just look it up on a random facts online but here lately I have thought about it. It seems the ones that don't have war or war on there front door step seem to be the most depressed. So I without looking on the internet i tried to think up some human emotion possibilities my first one is that people tend to experince something that i they can usually only say as they feel 'alive' when there in danger. I thought this could be the reason why those in 3 world countries seem to have lesser depersion rates. Now there is also the fact that I am sure the studies on these things have not been taken to an extent such as ones in more populated countries. I don't know personally I was wondering if there was any studies done on this and more answers?

You bring up an interesting point. I think I disagree, though. I don't think it's that America is the most depressed country in the world; I think we Americans have this sort of fascination with misery.

That is not to say that Americans love to be miserable. Of course not. But people love misery either way. From what I've seen, people seem to think that misery is beautiful. I think that a lot of people, while horrified by depression, find the idea of depression to be oddly pleasing. Now, people who actually HAVE depression will probably say how horrid it is, and nobody will question that. But people secretly love the idea.

That's just my theory XD

Very interesting. Not to mention our government, since 2008, has had a morbid fascination with Marxism!

You bring up an interesting question... And I'm not exactly sure I understand what you're theory is...

But the way I think of it, some people were depressed because they wanted pity. And then people realized it, and hated them, which made them even more depressed. So emo music and poetry and all that stuff came around, and it caught on quickly, because here in America, communication is simple, and trends get around easily.

So then people started becoming emo, and people say that means they're depressed. (Even though that's not true) So some people may say we're depressed.

Looking at it from a different perspective, adults may be depressed because of our collapsing socail and economical economy. Socially, some people are being overworked, while others are being underworked, and that makes the people on the bottom depressed. Economically, people never feel like they have enough money, so they always go for more. Which gets them in trouble, and that makes them depressed.

Wow, I can REALLY ramble sometimes... XD

...I completely disagree with you on the "depresed because they wanted pity" thought. Depression does NOT work that way, it's a medical condition.

I guess I just never make the connection. I always keep science and emotions as though they were in two separate worlds, it never seemed like you could use chemicals to change the whole way you were thinking. It's just a really weird concept to me, I'll never totally understand it. And maybe I did think it was magic! The little feelings fairy comes up and zaps me whenever I'm sad! :P

Understood. If it helps, think of it in terms of drinking alcohol. When you drink too much alcohol, your mood and behavior shift. The same is true for any other drug (from marijuana to methamphetamines) but I'm using alcohol because it's a legal drug (but a drug nonetheless). People can do or say things under the influence of alcohol that they would never do or say sober, because it changes their brain chemistry. Our brains are just tissue, chemicals and electrical impulses. Believe it or not, that's all it is. Everything we do, from the physical act of my fingers typing on this keyboard to the thoughts that I'm conveying in doing so are caused by electrical "messages" sent from one part of my brain to another, and/or down my spinal column to my fingers. Chemicals and electricity are what make our brains "alive." That's why someone can be "brain dead" when the rest of their body survives - if they have no electricity in their brain anymore.

I wouldn't say we're the worst. Fucked up at times? Sure. But not the worst...there are other parts of the world out there with conditions that are much more horrid than ours.

I don't know, it's the not country it's the people. Their sadness is spreading around so there is more and more. And it's how the person is. I know a couple people that complain at the littlest things and say they are depressed, when actually they can't handle things well. Depression sometimes can be an illusion. Heh..
