2009, San Francisco
It was eight o’ clock in the evening and Paige was getting ready to have dinner with Richard. She looked really pretty. “Wow, you look amazing”, Chris said. Paige blinked her eyes to make the words sink in. “Thanks, I guess”
“Although I don’t get why you’d go to so much trouble for a guy who doesn’t even care enough for you to give up his powers”, Chris continued.
“I knew there was a catch”, Paige mumbled. “Look, it really isn’t that simple. Magic is who he is. Asking him to give up his powers, is kind of like asking him to give up his identity”
“That’s a bunch of crap. If he can’t choose between his powers and the love of his life, he doesn’t deserve you. There’s plenty more fish in the sea, Paige”, Chris convincingly said.
Paige shook her head. She wasn’t gonna give up on Richard, not yet. She grabbed her coat and put him on. Than she grabbed her handbag and without saying see you later, she took off.
“Good job, Chris Perry”, Chris complimented himself. “I so suck at this”
Richard had done a great effort to make Paige satisfied. There was one single table in the center of the living room. There was a candlestick in the center of the table and the lights were dimmed. There was nothing that could go wrong.
The bell rang and Richard shimmered to the door, to open it. Paige was standing in the doorway. He gasped when he saw how beautiful she looked. “Wow, Paige, you look…incredible. Come in” He step aside to let Paige pass.
He adopted her coat and hung it on a peg. Than he escorted her to the table in the living room. Paige eyes widened when she realized the effort Richard had done.
Richard moved the chair backwards so Paige could sit down. He went sitting on the other side of the table. “How-eh-how are you?” “Same as yesterday when you told me you didn’t wanna bind your magic”, Paige said. Richard let out a deep sigh.
“Paige, we’ve been through this before. I’m not giving up my powers”, he said. “Why not? You don’t need them. It’s not like you have to save innocents every day, like I do”, Paige said upset. She knew magic would consume Richard. Too bad Richard couldn’t realize that.
“I’m not giving up who I am. I can’t believe you’re asking me this, Paige. You’re my girlfriend, you’re supposed to support me”, Richard said, getting on the top of his self-control.
“I am supporting you!”, Paige yelled.
“Really? Well, you’ve got a strange way of showing it”, Richard angrily replied.
“That’s it”, Paige said and she stood up. “I’m not having this conversation for the umpteenth time. I’ve tried to be patient with you, I’ve tried to help you, but you clearly don’t need my help. You don’t want to listen? Fine. I’m leaving and I’m not coming back!”
Richard blinked his eyes as he realized what Paige was saying. “Are you dumping me?”
Paige looked him angry in the eye. “Yes, Richard, I’m dumping you. I’m glad to hear you’ve got the picture. Now, goodbye!” She turned around.
Richard waved his finger and she passed out. He bend down on his knees and lifted up Paiges body and walked away.
