Well there is a few ways of making them, most people download episodes from the computer and cut them up for the parts they want useing Windows Movie Maker. Or mabey they use some site to do it I'm not sure. Another way instead of Downloading you can rip your movies and episodes that you have on DVD to the computer. But both of these options will take up alot of your computers memory and space. Another way is using Gif Images (The type of picture at the bottom, if its not moving then that means then Fanpop stopped it from moving, fanpop sometimes does that but just serch buffy the vampire slayer gifs oh and you need to clicck on them to see if they move if they dont when you click on the then they are NOT a gif) which will not take up as much memory and space, but its hard to find the bit you want, and they are sometimes too fast or too slow. and are not always great qwality, I myself use GIFs cuz I'm on my dads computer and he would not like me taking all the computer space and memory.

This ^^ is a link for my best vid useing gifs oh and sub me! and yeah when useing gifs you cant have voice overs. and if you want music you can rip song from your CDs and I think you can get them off ITunes I'm not sure I'm not an expert

EastendersRox explained it quite well, although I don´t think GIFs are that great. But if you don´t have much memory it´s the only way. For starters I would also recommend to use Windows Movie Maker cuz it´s really easy to handle and to get a taste of vid making. Of course it´s not for more professional vids as you sometimes see from some awesome vidders on Youtube.
i´m no good vidder but here I show you the difference:

Some vids on these channels are from Movie Maker, I bet you will notice them.
Anyway first familiarize yurself with that program, if you like vidding and want a better program, you can write me here or on YouTube.

Here's what I do I was a film maker in school. I use Corel and Final Cut Pro, but you can sub it with Windows Media Player.

1) Pick a topic/idea. Know what your fanvid is about. If you want music pick something that will work with your topic.
2) Download or rip. I use Youtube to get fragments and piece them together.
3) Begin editing. Start with simple cuts, then pick some transitions. Note: If you've cut to time, some transitions will cut the time even more. Example: I have cut and added music. My music beats on the cuts perfectly. Now I add a flashback transition. Now the cuts don't make it in time with the music. Got it?
4) Once done, you can render and finish. Let me know if you need any help.

I use the free version (it's limited on how long you can "rip" the DVD) of Aiseesoft DVD ripper. With those saved, I make them in Windows Movie Maker.
