OK, first of all, I thought the Wolves at the Gate arc made a lot of sense. Buffy is not a lesbian, nor is she even bi, because she does not identify as either one of these. She was a girl, who was lonely, who (I hate to say it) took advantage of Satsu's vulnerability in her feelings. But like Willow says to Satsu in (I think it was) Predators and Prey, and as Kennedy reiterates to her in the same arc, Buffy is "not like us."
Second of all, even if she did fall in love with Satsu, or any other girl for that matter, so long as it was well done, I don't see how it would be all that crazy. People are falling in love every day, and gender matters less to some people than it does to others.
Sexuality is a complicated issue and I, for one, am proud that the Season 8 writers are exploring that, and exploring the concept of relationships in general, and how they can confuse the people who are IN those relationships as much as they can confuse the witnesses of the relationship.
In summation - Buffy is not a lesbian, and she is not bisexual. She is human, and she is lonely, and she was flattered when she discovered that there was someone out there who loved her, perhaps worried that she was so far apart from the other slayers that no one other than a vampire ever could love her.
Also, I'm having this moved to the Buffyverse comics spot, because a lot of people on this spot do not read the comics.
