I don't think he was terrible. I thought his portrayal was good (despite him being too attractive and hardly having any deformity whatsoever), but his singing needed some work.

I couldn't stand Raoul he's always Mr Hero but there's no need to be, I hated him in Wandering Child how he came and nearly killed the phantom and took her away I wish the Phantom killed him at the end he deserved it!!!

He sung the role really well singing it on stage might be a totally different way to look at it but for the movie he was great

Uh No! This is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA it has been on the stage for 25 years it has sold millions of cds worldwide and THAT is who they chose to play Phantom.. Patrick Wilson should have done it, he at least can sing.. Hell, Ramin Karimloo was in that movie.. Can he sing?!? Hell Yes he can sing.. and act and be amazing.. but they chose Gerard Butler who can't... Yeah he played it well but the Phantom's voice that's the most important part of him ..
