Fairytales, the first album of Alexander Rybak, has just been released in France, on the M6 Interactions label (distributed by Warner Music). The tracklist is the same as the other releases... except than it includes a French version of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest Grand Prix.
This is the very good news of this release and a sign that the record company is willing to support the record, in spite of the fact that Fairytale won three months ago now. A big promotion is presently being made on private TV channel M6, with ads reminding viewers that Alexander Rybak was the big sensation of the latest Eurovision Song Contest.
The 2009 Eurovision Phenomenom, the sticker on the CD writes. The record also has the support of RTL, which is the most popular and listened to radio station in France. As for the French version itself, the lyrics were penned by Thierry Samois. The first two choruses remain in English but turn to French at the reprise. There Sylvie Loche is doing the background vocals. You can watch an interview with Alexander Rybak, when in France, in the gardens of the record company below when he visited France to sign his record contract.
The last to date winning song sung in French was Celine Dions Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, back in 1988. The last to date non French-speaking Grand Prix to have been performed in French by its original artist is Nicoles La Paix Sur Terre (1982).
